An illumination installation of seemingly floating lights that create a fantastic afterimage, this work centers around an organically spiral-shaped rail construction on which a number of balls with built-in LEDs are rolling while blinking in different time intervals, resulting in spatial drawings of light particles in all kinds of shapes. The illumination's three-dimensional design, achieved through a fusion of the rail construct's characteristic features and communication control technology, takes on various appearances depending on the viewer's position. Look forward to an exciting new work that combines generally entertaining ideas and sophisticated information technology in everything from LED devices and other hardware to programming.

The Dynamics and Aesthetics of Failure (an introduction)

In general terms, the aesthetic of failure can be defined as the way artists reflexively quote and misuse the programmed aspects of their medium.[1]

With the advent of the industrial revolution, many artists in the beginning of the 20th century turned their attention to newly conceived and constantly changing landscape, at the core of this change they found technology.

In 1909 Marinetti published the Manifesto of Futurism, placing technology and violence at the center of the futurist artistic concerns.

In 1922 Man Ray began the production of Rayographs, cameraless photographs produced by placing miscellaneous objects on an unexposed sheet of photographic paper and turning on the light. The result was not a mechanical copy but an unpredictable event.

Marcel Duchamp worked on La Mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires, même until 1923 when he abandoned it in what he called a 'definitively unfinished” state. The imagery of the piece is pervaded by references to science and technology [2]. The piece also represents a failure in itself "the bachelor is not even a suitor, and the bride will never be married."[3]

In 1952 composer John Cage, influenced by the White Paintings [4] series of Robert Rauschenberg, the writings of Laslo-Maholy Naggy [5] and La Mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires, même by Marcel Duchamp [6], composed 4'33'', a piece for any instrument but made up entirely of silence. This piece by Cage marks the dawn of an aesthetic of failure.

Destruction and misuse, physical or metaphorical, coupled with technology proved to be a fertile breeding ground for artistic exploration throughout the 20th century.

The two are closely related, one of the fundamental aspects of technology is it's ability to fail and for most of us technology is invisible until it fails. Schimtt (2009) argues that technology “can fail miserably or it can fail gracefully, and if it is graceful enough failure might not even be noticed or even appreciated as success.”

If Kurt Cobain was alive he would be 43 years old and I would probably have had the opportunity to see him in concert.
Nevermind was actually one of the first CD’s I ever bought. I remember it was Saturday morning and my dad took me to the record store at the mall. Has we left the record store two cleaning ladies started a fight, pulling each others hair and rolling on the floor in front of us. I remember not feeling scared or worried and just looking at my dad and smiling.
I guess that was something Kurt Cobain tried really hard to do, smile. He didn’t quite make it in the end but I’m glad his music did so I’ll be listening to Nirvana for the next couple of weeks.

Gentleman Of Bakongo is a photobook by Daniele Tamagni that portaits the phenomenon of the African sapeurs, a clique of extraordinarily dressed dandies from the republic of the Congo. The book also served as inspiration for Paul Smith's Women Spring 2010. I'm glad to see the hobo look hasn't made its way to Congolese slumbs. Who's got the funk? They got the funk!

You know how people who own cats are always going on about how clean they are? I can't get my mind around this. I'm sure these people have seen cats on the streets, eating out of the trash. If you see a homeless guy eating of the trash, will you complement him on his personal hygiene? Will you take him home and feed him milk? A cat's idea of a shower consists on a saliva scrub with his tongue, not only is that disgusting as it is dangerous, this is why cats choke on fur balls, they literally risk it all for a little tongue action.

I remember this guy in school who was lead guitar in a death-metal band but couldn’t really get it all out at concerts. K being the guy's name, or consonant if you prefer, had an inner ear condition that affected his balance, if he suddenly moved his head more than 66º either way, he would drop instantly on the floor. Never met a Satan worshiper quite so unfortunate. He is dead now, stabbed while fainting. He looked back, saw him coming and dropped out cold. His band later issued a limited edition tribute album named ‘Falling Into the Knife’, I heard it was quite good but couldn’t really bring myself to listen to it.
